Students often first walk through ACPA’s doors damaged or broken as a result of their middle school experience. We are extending our programming in order to provide students a safe place to learn and grow throughout their entire adolescence. We also want to start earlier with our students so that they can be better prepared for college and life after high school.
Cafeteria – Our cafeteria currently holds 80 students, which provides a daily logistical challenge of providing 400 students a space to eat lunch within a 90-minute timeframe. Students eat lunch in classrooms, the hallway, and anywhere else they can find a spot to unwind after a morning of learning. The new expansion will see the construction of a cafeteria that will provide ample space for all our students to eat lunch and re-energize for their afternoon activities.
Kitchen – ACPA currently contracts with a caterer to provide lunch to students. Adding a kitchen will allow ACPA to prepare much more nutritious and tastier meals for our students, while also opening the opportunity to prepare meals that include fresh produce grown in the ACPA gardens.
Sustainability – ACPA is working with a design school in Arizona that focuses on ecological design of the new building. They are contributing concepts and ideas that our architects are going to incorporate in the final design including water collection, thermodynamics, and solar energy.
