Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds is one of the most sought-after composers working today. He has won multiple awards for his work, and his compositions have been premiered by some of the world’s finest ensembles, among them the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia, The King’s Singers, the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge, Polyphony, the Latvian Radio Choir, and the Pacific Lutheran University Choir of the West and Choral Union.
Ēriks Ešenvalds’ compositions appear on recordings released by labels such as Hyperion, Decca Classics, Deutsche Grammophon, and Naxos. This coming April, Ešenvalds will spend a week in collaboration with the Choir of the West, recording a new album of his works for unaccompanied choir, to be released for worldwide distribution in the fall of 2018.
Adrian Peacock, one of the United Kingdom's most highly sought producers of classical music recordings, will be on campus to oversee the five recording sessions and will edit the resulting audio. The album will be distributed by a world recording label (we are in discussions with several for the rights to release).
Though Pacific Lutheran University Media Services has produced discs recorded by the Choir of the West in the past, this will be the choir's first venture into the professional recording world. The opportunity to collaborate with Ešenvalds and Peacock is truly special, and we hope it will lead to similar unforgettable experiences for students in the future.
Projects like these are expensive and beyond the Choir's normal operations budget - production costs will approach $14,000. With your help, we can raise the funds necessary to fully produce this project. Whether you are family, friend, alumnus, or just a lover of music, your contribution to this special project will help provide an unforgettable experience for the students in the Choir of the West. Your donation will help people around the world know the great work of PLU's flagship choir and the beauty and emotional power of the music of Ēriks Ešenvalds. Your donation is greatly appreciated!

Venue: Lagerquist Concert Hall, Pacific Lutheran University

I am very excited for the coming of the new CD recording with professor Richard Nance and Pacific Lutheran University Choir of the West this April!
When I first heard them singing in rehearsal at the ACDA National Conference in 2013, my composer's stress vanished immediately because I knew - they would premiere my "Northern Lights," which Choir of the West had commissioned, perfectly. And besides their high level musical skills and surprisingly humble attitude towards their performance there was something else I admired. It was their conductor Richard Nance who with his great experience had smartly created one of the most interesting concert programs of the whole Conference.
Since that day our paths have crossed several times, and now again, the recording will be a new step in our collaboration in the realms of Art. Tacoma is a truly beautiful and inspiring place--no wonder its people are so rich in their imagination and inspiration. It is a joy and honor to work with such people!
Please join our efforts to produce this new recording. Your contribution is very important and appreciated!
