We all want to feel connected and be a part of something greater. ReCon helped me belong.

When everything was new and I didn't know where I fit, through ReCon I made community, met scholars and developed a sense of belonging.

I left the mountains and rural lifestyle to go to the big city to start a Masters of Science. I was in a new city, a new province, a new university and I didn't know a single person. As a conservation biologist working to help the environment, I didn't know where I fit in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation.  Through participating in ReCon, I learned what the faculty was all about. I learned how my research fit. My research focuses on human behaviour in hunting, a conservation tool and outdoor sport. Since I study outdoor sport I fit into the faculty. At ReCon I met new students, other graduate students and professors. I asked them questions about what graduate studies was like, how best to become a scholar and what helped them be successful. Soon I felt at ease. I knew where I fit. I knew what to expect. I made friends and I knew how to be successful. ReCon set me up for success.
