Help Wilmington Green Box Grow!

In 2016 Wilmington Green Box was born, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program that provides at-risk teens with entrepreneurial jobs while supplying urban city communities with access to fresh produce and healthy goods.

There are many areas in Wilmington where two things are so scarce they're practically non-existent:  healthy food options and entrepreneurial job opportunities for at-risk teens. More than 65 percent of Wilmington residents live more than a half-mile away from the nearest grocery store. These areas are called "food deserts."

Moreover, crime in the city continues to far outpace the national average, with data on the city's website showing a 22 percent increase in shootings and homicides in 2017. In our experience, at-risk teens have found it difficult to escape the negative influences of their neighborhood.

After two years of employing at-risk teens and supplying urban Wilmington communities with direct access to delicious healthy food, we need your help!

About The Campaign

Your contribution will go a long way!

In 2016, the first phase of our program was a creative seasonal mobile-push cart that gave at risk neighborhoods access to healthy juices and fresh produce. The second phase, launched last summer, we created a seasonal public green space on North Market Street with a unique kiosk structure offering people a relaxing outdoor space to enjoy the healthy juices and produce we sell.

Since our launch, we’ve served over 1,000 people, many of them African-Americans who live in the Wilmington community.

These operations don’t run themselves! So far, we've trained and hired a total of four local, at-risk teens to offer an escape from their crime-ridden neighborhoods, while simultaneously equipping them with the skills and tools to be an asset to their communities.

The contribution you make today will help us continue to provide these healthy food options and employment opportunities to the people in our community who need them most.

Wilmington Green Box needs your help to meet exciting growth opportunities!

We are so excited that as the next part of our journey, Wilmington Green Box will be growing beyond a push cart and kiosk.

In partnership with Big Fish Restaurant Group, we are introducing our own line of bottled cold-pressed juices, which will be sold out of the new Harvest House coffeehouse on Washington Street.

As exciting as this partnership is for us, we still have goals to reach this year. We are planning to train and employ another six at-risk teens, purchase a new mobile pushcart, new juicing equipment, expand our inventory and buy supplies. These are the essentials needed to continue our growth and sustain our program.

Support us to grow our outreach!

Our success to date and the demand from our community proves that we have a model that is working effectively and meeting people’s needs. Up until this point, we have contributed our own personal resources to get the program off the ground and have received minimal funding assistance.

With your help, this summer, we will be able to continue turning Wilmington's "food deserts" green, because we believe good nutrition and modest job opportunities are not luxury items in life.

They're simple basics that should be a starting point for future success.

Thank you for supporting our organization and contributing to our community.
